Back in the day, in a land far, far away, I remember when I first was hired by a company to do social media management for their clients. I remember thinking “this is cool, but whats the point?” You see, I was a marketing major in college at the time, and took an internship with a remote media company. I was SUPER lucky to have the opportunity at the time, but honestly, I never expected to go into social media as a marketer. Flash forward to a few years later, I was intrigued and consumed by the online marketing world, in particular, social media. It was not until I opened my own social media and online marketing business that I fully understood the value and the reasons why businesses need these tools to succeed online today!
I have now been in the digital media world for 6 years, and in social media for 4 of those. Hardly a trailblazer but not a complete newbie. I still, however, feel like things are fresh and new every few months. I always seem to find another reason or strategy for business owners to succeed in the digital realm. There are always a new set of rules and games to play between Google, Facebook Ads, and all the algorithms I need to keep up with. However, I could not imagine being in a more exciting industry as online marketing.

Social Media offers an immediate connection to people. It removes barriers and makes brands more accessible. People like to feel connected to things they buy, whether it’s a product, an idea or a lifestyle.

If you have a website, you know how important it is to get traffic flowing to it! If you want to rank high in search engines and come up above your competitors, then having social media accounts for your business in another way of doing so. You can create internal links, share blog posts, upload products and share them to your platforms, and so much more! Having social media accounts for your business is a traffic generating resource that you can utilize in so many ways! Too many in fact for the purpose of this article.
We’ve all seen social ads either on Facebook as ‘Sponsored’ posts, or on Instagram as ‘Learn More’ or ‘Contact Us’ ads. These can be HIGHLY effective at engaging users to convert into customers or engaging people with your product or service. Social Ads have become so popular and effective that many businesses and CEO use them to not only grow their following, increase engagement, and connect with customers, they are using them as part of their overall social media strategy. Social ads are most effective when a business has an offering, a sale, or a limited time special offer they want to get out to their local market or target customer. They can be even more effective when created using a funnel to attract new customers or generate more business. These ads can have a push-pull effect depending on how you use them and should not be considered a waste of marketing dollars when considering using them.
